Superfoods are naturally found in nature and by definition are lower in calories and higher in nutrients then most food. Superfoods are wonderful sources of anti-oxidants and essential nutrients that may be found in other food sources, but not with the same quality or quantity.
There are many types of superfoods such as green superfoods which are very easy to digest and are filled with vitamins and minerals; fruit and nut superfoods which are high in anti-oxidants to help battle free radicals; seaweed superfoods are nutritionally dense and can have many times the amount of minerals found in other foods and herbal superfoods which can provide nutrients that you may not otherwise receive due to a poor diet or other environmental deficiencies.
Although most often used as a vegetable, avocados are actually a fruit. Once quite expensive outside of California and Florida where they are grown, avocados are now available most of the year throughout the United States at reasonable prices.
